Response to the Community Café petition

Response to the Community Café petition.

Dear petitioners
The Trustees of the 2000 Community Action Centre, 199-201 Grove St, Deptford SE8 3PG would like to acknowledge receipt of a petition concerning the Cafe based at the centre and received on the evening of the 6th of October 2014.
We would like to thank those who added their name to the petition for demonstrating their passion and care for the café service provided at the centre.
We have placed our formal reply to the petition via this notice at the centre to ensure those who signed their name but left no address to reply to directly, are able to see the reply when visiting the café and centre. We will add this open reply to the website also.
In response to the details set out in that petition, the management committee would like to confirm and clarify the situation.
Consultation regarding the café provision at the centre took place at the Annual General Meeting held in July and the committee took that as a mandate by the community to review the café model and offer.
The Community Café provision at the centre is funded by directly employing one member of staff at the centre for two days a week. That funding and commitment continues and remains entirely unchanged.
Funding was successfully applied for, to provide free community activities in the café which would attract increased use of the café space as well as enhance its appearance from the street. Discussions have also taken place with a number of statutory, community and voluntary organisations to support and enhance provision in the café for the benefit of the community.
The Trustees have acted within the remit of the constitution to sustain the community café provision which it funds whilst at the same time generating much needed income through a complimentary hire agreement that both extends the hours of opening and provision for the community.

From the 15th of October 2014 the cafe hours of operation will be:
Mon – Tues 10am - 6pm
Wed- Fri 7am-6pm
Saturday 8am-4pm

The hirer of the café space is committed to work with the community to provide a warm, inviting environment for the whole community to enjoy and to provide good quality, varied, nutritious and affordable meals and snacks which will complement the existing offer.

We look forward to your continued support for the café and centre, which we hope the community will benefit from, for many years to come.
